Most founders tell themselves the same comforting lie: that a weak HR setup is, at worst, an irrelevant thing — something you can bump up later when there's time and money. Nothing is more dangerous for an enterprise than this false sense of comfort. With weak HR, you don't stay still. You weaken as an organisation, daily.
And AI has made that decline faster, not slower. The talent game just got sharper — one lean, well-structured competitor with the right people will now outmanoeuvre a hundred over-staffed businesses. The margin you used to have for sloppy HR has gone to zero.
Hiring talent stays a nightmare for those whose HR can't create positive momentum in the talent marketplace. To assume your functional managers or your leadership team can fill those boots is to live in fool's paradise.
Employee communication suffers badly when there's no people's person accessible to your staff. No — a hands-on boss does not pass for an HR person, and nobody walks into the founder's room to crib.
Compliances, training calendars, systematic reviews, events, rewards and recognition — all of it stays erratic and lopsided when HR isn't strong enough.
Put together, these seemingly small issues pile up until daily work becomes a painful experience. Neglect it long enough and your team quietly arrives at the deadliest conclusion a team can reach: "nothing can be done here."
Here's the irony. So many founders run out to hire a Chief Operating Officer to handle this mess, when all they ever needed was a good, solid HR function.
You do what you do best. Leave HR to plugHR — and stop weakening, daily.
